Massage  Helps!

Massage is the working of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using various techniques or modalities, to enhance function, aid in the healing process, and promote relaxation and well-being. The Number ONE benefit is improved circulation-massage heals! Learn what massage can do for you!

Your massage is tailored just for you using a modality you prefer or a blend modalities offered.  Andrea is always learning new modalities and techniques from local therapists and classes, national conferences and videos. Here are a few of the massage modalities that are used:

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is the most commonly offered and best-known type of massage. Massage oil or lotion is used to perform smooth, gliding strokes, kneading, friction, stretching and (sometimes) tapping. Swedish massage uses firm but gentle pressure to promote relaxation, ease muscle tension and create other health benefits, namely improved circulation.

Deep Tissue Massage

Aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep tissue massage is more thorough and therapeutic to work out adhesions, tension and break down scar tissue.  This is a more focused type of massage with slower and firmer pressure.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. MFR can relieve pain, headaches, migraines, carpal tunnel, TMJ, chronic pain and neck pain and helps you get back to a pain free lifestyle. When you have tried everything else and nothing works-Try Myofascial Release.  Andrea is trained in the John F. Barns Myofascial Release Technique. She has advanced training in  both MFR I and II an will be taking Pelvis Myofasial Release in 2013.

Injury Massage

This modality assists in relieving chronic and acute pain by working on major muscle segments with specific, deep technique to stimulate individual muscle fibers. Light oil or lotion may be used. ***This is the most common modality Andrea uses with the key being: SPECIFIC. If you request special attention to an area, she is happy to do that!

Sports Massage

Incorporating massage and stretching in your conditioning program has many benefits. It helps you get into good shape faster, and with less stiffness and soreness. It helps you recover faster from heavy workouts, and relieves conditions which may cause injury.

Anyone who stretches their physical limits through movement such as running, cycling, hiking, swimming, dancing, tennis and other racquet sports, strength training and aerobics can benefit from a massage. There are others who do strenuous activities in a day that is not normally classified as exercise. Examples are mothers with small children, gardeners, and others who use their bodies strenuously in their work.

Myofascial Cupping

Cupping is an ancient Chinese method of releasing muscle tension,  restrictions and stagnant energy.  By creating a negative pressure or suction into the cup, fluid movement is restored and tissue layers are separated and 'unglued.' This increases blood flow, re-hydrates and oxygenates muscle tissue layers.

Myofascial Cupping for Cellulite

Cupping can also be used to treat cellulite.  It separates tissue and adhesions that cause "dimpling" of the skin.  It increases circulation and activates the lymphatic system.  A series of six treatments, one per week is recommended for best results.  Combine cupping with dry brushing fro maximum results.

Prenatal Massage

Massage given to pregnant women ONLY IN 2ND AND 3RD TRIMESTERS. Focus is on relaxation, low back pain and gentle foot and leg work to reduce edema. You will be lying on your side comfortably and supported with pillows.
