Congratulations  to Andrea  for being nominated by Inside Columbia Magazine Best of Columbia 2012!!

This is Andrea’s second year being nominated.  Andrea was nominated last year after being in business for only a short 3 months.  This year she expanded her practice to include Columbia Country Club.  She has expanded her business to include Personal Injury Accidents and has many referrals from trusted physicians and chiropractors in the community.

 Your Massage Therapist

Hi I am Andrea Young Registered Nurse, Licensed Massage Therapist and the owner of Alternative Healing Therapy. I attended Metro Business College in 2009 and graduated top in my class.  As the actual Valedictorian!  I am a professional member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). I also hold an Associate's Degree in Nursing from Columbia College. I have been a nurse since 1991 and have worked in and around the Columbia area as a Registered Nurse for almost 20 years. I try to integrate my medical experience, teaching practices and massage therapy experience to educate others who wish to participate in their own self-care.

I have always had a love for massage and found that it always helped me with my stress and poor body mechanics from being a nurse. I knew that at some point in my life, I wanted to become a massage therapist.  One day while working in the ICU and caring for patients in that stressful environment I realized that I missed spending actual time with patients.  My mom had just finished massage school and I looked into it.  Thirty days later I was attending my first class.  Massage has given back to me what nursing used to give me: a sense of helping others who want to be helped. I love the experience nursing has given me. I can't remember a time I didn't have all this medical knowledge.  I think I must have been born with it or it was embedded in me somehow.  January 2010 I finally quit nursing full time to devote time to massage and September 2010 I opened Alternative Healing Therapy.  It has been the best decision I have made!

When I am not massaging I am being over run by my 6 fur-babies. Yes, 6!  They were not all planned but they happened.  A yorkie, a chihuahua, 3 boston terriers and a yellow lab.  I am an avid couponer and an amateur knitter.  You can often find me on the patio at Flatbranch when the weather is nice.

I truly believe the more you know about your body the better you will feel and better able to cope with any stress or illness.

Alternative Healing Therapy
Andrea Young, R.N., L.M.T.-Owner

Massage is a lifelong healing tool, designed to relieve stress, calm the body and improve sleep, blood circulation and overall flexibility. The benefits of incorporating massage into an overall wellness plan go far beyond the luxury of crisp sheets, aromatherapy and gentle music that soothes even the most stressed individuals.

Massage is an important and life changing therapeutic practice that will leave you feeling better, happier and better able to take on life's challenges.

 About the Business

Alternative Healing Therapy opened September 1, 2010 at its current location on Walnut Street.  The first major promotion was a "Deal of the Day" in Inside Columbia Magazine where 138 Deals were sold in one day!  It was an amazing experience and I could have never reached that many people in a year on my own.  Alternative Healing Therapy was a nominee in the Best of Columbia 2011 category of Best Place to get a Massage.

Alternative Healing Therapy was also in a Columbia Daily Tribune Pulse article as a contributor to an Aromatherapy article.

In February 2011 a second location was been added inside Columbia Country Club the "Original Club."  I have enjoyed meeting the members there and offering this ammenity to it's members.
